This text is concerning the Dire Straits music. For the best hits album, see Sultans of Swing: The Very Better of Dire Straits.
“Sultans of Swing” is a music by British rock band Dire Straits from their eponymous debut album, which band frontman Mark Knopfler wrote and composed. Though it was first launched in 1978, it was its 1979 re-release that precipitated it to turn into a success in each the UK and U.S.
The music was recorded at Pathway Studios, North London, in July 1977 and shortly acquired a following after it was placed on rotation at Radio London. Its recognition quickly reached report executives, and Dire Straits had been provided a contract with Phonogram Information.
The music was then re-recorded in February 1978 at Basing Avenue Studios for the band’s debut album. The report firm needed a less-polished rock sound for the radio, so another model was recorded at Pathway Studios in April 1978 and launched as the one in some international locations together with the UK and Germany.
